To you Crazy Hearts,

I’m picking up where I left off, and leaning back into telling the tales of our wild and crazy adventure on our cross country roadtrip to see and experience the places that had so much impact on my music. Forgive me for the break in tales, a lot has happened on this journey. Life changing indeed.

Taking it back to our first stop, Memphis.

We set out excited and naive with hearts full of adventure, and into the unknown we went…

It was June 7th, 2023, and after a seven-hour RV pack we headed to our first destination, Memphis, a three and half hour drive down the road. When we arrived, we took a walk down Beale Street. It was electric. So many people from all over the world. There was a bike festival happening, so lots of Harleys and leather. Blues music echoed from the walls…

I heard an Australian accent coming from a speaker out the front of a club so we walked inside to check it out. There was a band playing the blues and we watched until they asked me up to jam on a few tunes. I sang “All Along the Watchtower,” and played some harmonica with the band. It was totally unexpected and as the crowd started building, so did the vibe. The atmosphere was excellent. It was fun just to jam, and so we had well and truly begun this mad adventure, setting the pace for that first week. I didn’t know it then, but it was about to get crazy (more on that later).

We stayed in the RV park across the road from Graceland. It wasn’t much but it was the first time setting up the RV in a park and everything was new and exciting. I was hopeful, curious, and a little overwhelmed, mainly because we were setting off into the unknown in an RV across America with our two children and a small camera crew. We had our first dinner at the Hard Rock Café and spirits were high. The first night went smoothly, we plugged in the RV and everything worked (something we would later discover was not so easy), and the following morning was nice. I kicked the soccer ball with the boys before packing up and heading to our next destination. Little did I know, things were about to get hectic. Crazy in-fact.
